Live in Washington County?

Washington County residents are eligible for a General Card:

  • Check out up to 100 items
  • Place up to 50 holds
  • Place up to 5 interlibrary loans
  • Plus access to e-books and online resources

Digital access only?

Washington County residents can get a digital library card at any Washington County library for:

  • Immediate access to e-books
  • Online resources, including language learning, New York Times online, and Lynda.com
  • No physical item check-outs

Age 0-17?

If you reside or attend school in Washington County, you may obtain a Student Library Card. No ID, proof of address, or parental signature required.

  • Check out up to 5 books or audiobooks
  • Place up to 5 holds
  • Plus access to e-books and online resources
  • No interlibrary loans
  • No overdue fines
  • Billed for damaged or lost items
  • Annual renewal

No street address or temporary?

If you live in Washington County without a street address or are living in temporary accommodations, you may obtain a Temporary - No Permanent Address card. Photo ID required; proof of address is not. Check with your library to see if they offer this card type.

Own property in Washington County?

Washington County property owners who reside outside of Washington County or our reciprocal borrowing areas are eligible for a Non-Resident Property Owner Card:

  • Check out up to 100 items
  • Place up to 50 holds
  • Place up to 5 interlibrary loans
  • Plus access to e-books and online resources
  • Annual renewal

Bring your current Washington County Property Tax statement in addition to photo ID and proof of address.

Live outside Washington County?

You can get a free library card if you are a resident of:

  • Multnomah County, Oregon
  • Clackamas County, Oregon (excluding Johnson City)
  • Hood River County, Oregon
  • Clark County, Washington
  • Skamania County, Washington
  • Klickitat County, Washington
  • Cities of Ariel, Cougar or Woodland, WA (in Cowlitz County)

Libraries in these areas belong to the Metropolitan Interlibrary Exchange (MIX). Residents may apply for free library cards at participating libraries. Patrons must register for a library card at each library system they wish to use. Materials must be checked out and returned at the library or library system that issued the library card. Other library systems may have different registration requirements, rules and fees.

Metropolitan Interlibrary Exchange libraries include Camas Public Library, Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, Hood River County Library District, Library Information Network of Clackamas County, and Multnomah County Library.

Live in Oregon?

Thanks to the Oregon Library Passport Program, if you are an Oregon resident and have a library card from a participating Passport Program library, you can get a free library card at WCCLS.

The Passport Program provides limited access to WCCLS libraries and materials must be checked out and returned to a WCCLS library (your home library will not return them for you).

Bring your library card from a participating Passport Program library in addition to photo ID and proof of address.

None of the above?

If you reside outside of Washington County or any of the MIX jurisdictions listed above, and your local library does not participate in the Oregon Library Passport Program, you may obtain a Non-Resident Card for an annual fee of $140.
