What Staff Are Reading: The Unkindness of Ravens

Ann-Marie Anderson is the adult services librarian at Tigard Public Library. She is lucky to select the general adult fiction books for the library’s collection. She works on programs, such as author talks, tech classes and craft workshops. She also connects patrons with information and resources when working at the reference desk, and schedules displays and exhibits.

What are you currently reading?

The Unkindness of Ravens by M. E. Hilliard published this past April 2021. 

What do you think so far?

The rave book reviews grabbed me with the comparisons to the novels of Louise Penny, Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes. I’m 100 pages in and so far the librarian heroine has stumbled upon the body of the president of the friends group in the brooding gothic library building (a former manor) and appears to be intelligent, dryly witty, very fashion conscious and has a tragic past. I’m on board.

Where is your favorite place to read?

Snuggled up in the easy chair in my living room with a goldendoodle next to me, getting her head scratched. It’s a very meditative ritual.

Who is your favorite detective?

Hmm, probably fictional amateur detective Ruth Galloway, who is actually a forensic archaeologist and enjoyably misanthropic. She’s the star of a series by Elly Griffiths.

If you didn’t work at a library, what would you do for a living?

Wildlife biologist! Or goldendoodle wrangler?
