Announcing the 2022 Teen Art Contest Winners

We are proud to unveil the winning artwork from the 2022 Summer Reading Teen Art Contest!

First place was awarded to Parker M., a 10th grader and patron of Hillsboro Public Library, who created multimedia artwork using cut paper, crayon, marker, watercolor and acrylic paint.

“The focus is slightly abstract but gives the sense of adventure, mystery, and curiosity, as the figure climbs the swirling path that is seeping out from the chaotic book,” Parker says. “The path may lead nowhere, or it may lead to the greatest journey of their life.”

Patrons between ages 12 and 18 were asked to submit up to two original pieces that represent the theme for this year's Summer Reading program, “Read beyond the beaten path.” 

The grand prize was a $200 Amazon gift card and a chance to be featured on the WCCLS website and social media, as well as across the county in other Summer Reading promotions. WCCLS received 92 submissions.

Third place: Mei C., 12th grader, patron of Bethany Library

Honorable mention: Jacqueline Y., seventh grader, patron of Bethany Library

All youth, up to age 18, are encouraged to sign up for Summer Reading at their local library. Everyone who registers can earn a free book! Families and patrons of all ages are also invited to participate in our WCCLS passport program this summer. Visit as many libraries as you can, discover what's unique about each one and enter to win a prize!
