Entrants from across Washington County showcased immense creativity during the Teen Art Contest and boldly expressed their own interpretation of this year’s summer reading theme “Read, renew, repeat.”
Waverly J., a 9th grader and patron of Cedar Mill Library, was awarded first place!
“My artwork features a landscape area with a garden
growing books. There is a bunny who is watering one of these ‘book plants’ in order to symbolize the cycle of renewing reading books,” she says. “There are an array of different flowers around the bunny and the background features hills with a lake passing through. The sky is shaded light purples and pinks with a sun in the top right corner of the artwork.”
Waverly’s artwork will be featured on the WCCLS’ Facebook, Instagram, and on a limited-edition bookmark that will be available at all libraries this summer. Also, as the grand prize winner, Waverly received a $200 Amazon gift card.
Congratulations to the other winners, who also received prizes!
Second place: Liliana R., 10th grader, Beaverton City Library
Third place: Delaney B., 11th grader, Sherwood Public Library
Honorable mention: Tanav M., 11th grader, Cedar Mill Library
